Onitsuka Tiger
Onitsuka Tiger is one of the oldest Japanese shoe brands. In 1949 she founded Onitsuka Kihachiro - young businessman who wanted to promote the sport to raise the self-esteem of youth in postwar Japan.
The first success came in 1952 with a model for basketball with cushioned soles, which became a hit. During the following years, Onitsuka designed special shoes for other sports. Even the legendary Ethiopian runner Abebe Bikila, running barefoot used, a custom-made shoes from Onitsuka liking.
In 1977, the brand became part of ASICS, which was formed by the merger of GTO, JELENKA and Onitsuka. ASICS is the acronym of the phrase "Anima Sana in corpore sano" or "healthy body, healthy mind".
While ASICS is in charge of sports shoes, Onitsuka Tiger is still synonymous with popular leisure sneakers, which can rightly be called a "cult" - appeared eg. In the movie Kill Bill where Uma Thurman pulled on the black and yellow version.
